The Power of Waiting

Sometimes during a season of waiting, it can seem like life is passing you by. People around you are making moves, events and social gatherings are taking place, and there you are...waiting. Waiting to see and hear about your next steps to take. Don't let the masses pull you into moving out of turn. Everyone who is moving isn't moving in the right direction.

Waiting is not a bad thing, especially if you aren't clear on your next set of instructions from God. Be thankful for the quiet seasons and times of waiting on God to hear. I have learned that there are some storms of life and drama we could have avoided if we had simply waited on instructions from God on what to do, what to say, and where to go. There are some decisions we would not have made, relationships we would not have started or ended, projects we would not have begun, and places we would not have gone had we taken time to pause and seek God for guidance.

Recently I was reading a scripture, and God began dealing with my heart about following Him. Follow means, "To go after or behind; to walk, ride or move behind, but in the same direction (Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary)." Here is the scripture I was reading that really ministered to me along these lines...

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)

Notice that Jesus references a yoke in this scripture. A yoke is a beam used between a pair of oxen. The older, experienced animal would be paired with an inexperienced, younger animal to teach and lead the younger one how to plow and work the field. Likewise, Jesus is extending an invitation to us today. He's saying, "Come and plow in life with me. I'll lead you on how to turn, when to slow down, when to speed up, and which way to go. I know the path ahead. Come and yoke up with me."

Take time waiting in His presence by praying, spending time in His Word and listening. Shut down distractions in your life that are holding your attention and wasting your time. Open your heart to hear and see direction in His presence for your life. This is how we live a surrendered life of worship before Him... We wait in His presence for direction, and when we move, we move following His lead.
